At the Youth Forum during the Guyana Energy Conference & Supply Chain Expo 2026, a student questioned how Guyana plans to position itself as both an energy hub and a leader in sustainability.

Minister Vickram Bharrat highlighted Guyana’s unique position as one of the world’s few carbon negative countries, emphasizing the nation’s low deforestation rates, strong environmental standards, and commitment to responsible energy development.

He noted that the Gas-to-Energy Project is expected to reduce electricity costs by 50% and cut emissions from power generation by 70% by the end of 2026, creating reliable energy, new economic opportunities, and a more sustainable future for Guyana.
